A Stumbling Man

Louis Rogers

I started out right

But as I went down the road of life

And my home got out of sight

I knew I ought to have a plan

But right there and then

I began to show the makings

Of a stumbling man

It wasn’t that I didn’t know

Some differences from right and wrong

But my mind was full of contradictions

I would see the light

But then it would flicker

From being bright

Sputtering and fluttering out of sight

As life moves on

Many things I remember

Many things that make me wonder

But now they come out of the past

Like claps of thunder

On and on life trickles away

Like the hourglass sand

And still, here I stand

Just a stumbling man

Watch me Lord

I need your help

For my feet are tangled

And it is so late in time

With my life still mangled

Dear Lord, hold up the light

I want to come home

But, my home is out of sight

Please Lord, take me by the hand

I am still without a plan…

Please take me as I am

Just a stumbling man.
