ANN
Louis R. Rogers
2002-3
Ann, since I first saw you
More than forty-five years have passed
I still remember so well
You sitting at your desk
Prim, vibrant and beautiful
Firmly intent on your task
Today, I still see you…
Just as I saw you then
Prim, vibrant and beautiful
Just as you were in the past
On that day so long ago
As I looked away from you then
I was drawn to look back
And, as my eyes on you came to rest
A feeling surged in my chest
A feeling that will forever transcend
When I look at you now
You are as I first saw you
The feeling in my chest
Surging stronger, and stronger
But, not yet at its crest
T’was late Summer
Turner Air Force Base, Georgia
Nineteen-hundred and fifty-five
For me the world was new
I had just become alive
What brought our lives together?
With the passing of time
I can't remember
I do recall however
It began early in September
The first day in your presence
I spent a very short time
Time enough though
For the wonder of you
To engrave indelibly on my mind
Twentieth of April nineteen-fifty-six
In the presence of our Heavenly Father
We pledged our lives to each other
Brother Aaron with wife, sister Lee
Stood with us on that grand day
And they have continued with us
All along the way
Today Ann, you and I are together
Knowing that over the years
Rough times have come and passed
Much like the weather
That makes the sky momentarily overcast
Ann, with God's help
And , the help of our family and friends
We have been blessed
Through a long time of test
Now with God's guidance
And with our love for each other
We go forward together
Forever.
Your husband, Roge
