Dreams come and dreams go

Some make you feel sad

A few will make you feel bad

Some make you really glad

Occasionally, along comes a dream

Neither glad, nor bad, nor sad

It just runs around in your mind

Until you wonder - what is it all about?

How come I cannot figure it out?

…A few days ago, while nodding off

Sitting in my best lawn-chair

In the backyard

Something startled me

Sitting up I looked around

But everything seemed quiet and normal

So I sat back to relax and doze again

As I did, the strange dream

From days before

Arose strongly in my mind

Clearer than ever this time

Maybe easier for me to define

I, again saw the old, well-kept house

Sitting off in the distance

Not a large house, nor a small house

But a house that would be

Adequate for a large family

Sitting there on the side of a hill

Sitting there with a slight dominance

But still, with a lot of good will

The time of day in the dream

Appeared to be early evening

For the shadows were long

In the fading daylight

A glow of yellow light

Was cast from a single window

The yellow light glowing dim and then bright

Like a beacon in the window

Showing softly in the early night…

…What am I seeing?

What does it signify

What is the meaning -?

I sit and ponder, lost in time

My thoughts bring no answers

I find this dream hard to define

There is one answer that comes to play

And, regardless of what I want to believe

This answer just wants to stay…

The house so amply adequate

Sitting there very satisfyingly tranquil

Like a home in waiting

The yellowish light from the window

Casting a warm glow

Into the darkening night

This time from what I see

I get a rush of well being

A feeling like someone is beckoning me

- Asking me, wanting me to come home

The warm yellow glow from the window

Lighting the path for me to follow

In the back light through the window

I see my wife Ann

Amongst loved ones gathered around

Their lingering smiles beaming contentment

…Slowly the sounds in my backyard

Came back to life

The wren singing in the pecan tree

The hammering sound from my neighbor’s garage

The sun shining warmly against my cheek

As I look around my backyard

Things are in sharper definition

The voice of the wren, sweeter

The brightness of the sun, softer

I am feeling an inner glow

Something wonderful was restored in my mind

Something very good to look forward to

For all of my time.
