KEEPERS OF THINGS AND PEOPLE

‘My Thoughts Added To Something Borrowed From Anonymity’

Lou Rogers

Keeping things that you just can’t seem to throw away is maybe a natural response for most people

Same thing goes for keeping loved ones when they are no longer able to respond effectively and safely to their own daily needs

Keeping loved ones may not be quite so prevalent amongst some people as our keeping of other things and that’s a shame

My Wife died, on that beautiful sunny, but chilly March 5th day of 2004, in the afternoon, in the warmth of our home in her bedroom, in her rocking chair where she loved to sit and tell me what she saw out the window.

She said she was a little dizzy and thirsty - I knelt and handed her a glass of cool water - she took a small sip - handed the glass back to me with a gentle, loving smile of thanks.

A few seconds passed and she laid her head back in a restful manner

and her breathing stopped.

I was struck with the pain of abruptly learning that the one giving me and all her family intense love in such great abundance...wasn’t there anymore.

Sometimes, what we care about most

Just gets all used up...

So...while we have something...

Especially…while we have someone we love...

It's best we show our LOVE in all the ways we can...

and CARE FOR in all the ways we can...
Fix when broken...

Heal best we can when sick.

This is true for marriage,

Children with bad report cards...

Aging spouses, aging parents, ailing grandmothers...

Even when they are with only remnants of once beautiful minds.

We keep and nurture them because they are worth it,
Because we are only worth...what we keep.

There are just some things that make life important,
Like people we know who are SPECIAL...

And so, we will keep them close…

Even...when they are gone.

Dear God, please keep my eyes and ears open wide,

My feeling of what I touch - sensitive, and my mind strong,

so I may better recognize new blessings that come my way,

and better remember old blessings that have passed...
